User Story: Achieving 100% Stable Storyboard Output with a Singapore Client

A Critical Challenge from Singapore
One afternoon, the LlamaGen.ai team received a detailed email from Wei, a creative director at a Singapore-based animation studio. Wei's team was using our Storyboard Control Module to create multi-panel storyboards, but they faced a persistent issue: the output was inconsistent due to unstable inference services from our model provider. This disrupted their ability to reliably generate storyboards ranging from 1 to 20 panels per page.
"Your storyboard tool is powerful, but the inconsistent outputs are slowing us down. We need stable, predictable results to meet our production deadlines. Can you fix this?" — Wei
Recognizing the Need for Stability
Wei's feedback pinpointed a critical issue. Our Storyboard Control Module already supported dynamic panel counts, character consistency, and narrative flow, but the underlying model provider's inference instability was undermining its reliability. We knew that achieving 100% stable output was essential for professional workflows like Wei's.
"Wei’s challenge wasn’t about adding new features—it was about making our existing tool rock-solid. Stability is non-negotiable for creators under tight deadlines." — LlamaGen.ai Product Team
Tackling Inference Instability
Stabilizing the storyboard output required addressing the root cause: the model provider’s inference service. This wasn’t a simple fix—it demanded a deep dive into our pipeline to optimize performance without sacrificing the module’s flexibility. Our team identified key areas to address:
- Inference Variability: The model provider’s service occasionally produced inconsistent results for complex multi-panel prompts.
- Scalability Issues: High panel counts (up to 20) strained the inference process, leading to dropped or distorted outputs.
- Latency Spikes: Unpredictable delays disrupted real-time preview functionality.
A Two-Week Optimization Sprint
Rather than rebuilding the module, our team launched a two-week sprint to optimize its stability. We collaborated closely with Wei’s team to test iterative improvements, focusing on:
- Enhanced Prompt Engineering: Refined input processing to reduce variability in model responses.
- Load Balancing: Implemented smarter resource allocation to handle high panel counts efficiently.
- Added redundancy to ensure consistent output during inference hiccups.
