A line such as "I hope it's not scary" is easier to judge when it sits on the character rather than in a distant captions column. The page keeps the balloon large enough to read against the pose.
The practical win is fewer mismatched lines: creators can confirm the spoken beat on the same panel readers will see.
Match overlay rows to spoken lines
Layers lists overlay titles from the balloon text. Finding "Are we almost there" in the list should match the balloon on the page, which shortens the hunt for the wrong layer.
